
MPEDA Chairman D.V. Swamy highlighted the importance of upskilling to align with the Government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
The Marine Products Exports Development Authority has organized the first inter-state skill Olympiad on seafood value addition, preliminary round (Zone I – West Coast), for seafood processing professionals at NIFPHATT, Kochi.
D V Swamy, Chairman, MPEDA, in his inaugural address, emphasized the need to develop skills in the seafood sector to make India a global leader in seafood value addition. This aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The programme’s objective is to enhance skills in seafood processing, build a pool of trained professionals, and create awareness about the quality and value addition of seafood products.
As many as 20 skilled seafood professionals from the West Coast participated in the Inter-State Skill Olympiad in Kochi and prepared 10 value-added seafood products, including Shrimp, Cuttlefish, Squid, Tuna, and tilapia. The Skill Olympiad was evaluated by a five-member panel comprising experts from the seafood industry and fisheries institutes.
The event ended with a tasting session of value added marine products.
