Continuous rain in the high ranges has reportedly affected the quality of teas coming to the auction platform in leaf and dust grades, leading to a selective buying.
Traders reported that in sale number 35, arrivals were lower, with demand being subdued from blenders, despite some export enquiries.
The offered quantity in CTC dust was 5,71,391 kg. The market for good liquoring teas was barely steady and tended to ease especially for powdery grades. Blenders were selective and operated with lower limits and they accounted for the absorption of 61 per cent of the total CTC teas sold.
The offered quantity in orthodox grades was 9500 kg with primary grades steady to dearer, while secondary teas were irregular and lower. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed a small quantity.
53% CTC leaf sold
In orthodox leaf, demand was only fair with a sales percentage of 70 out of the offered quantity of 1,52,338 kg. Whole leaf was steady to firm, while the remainder was irregular and lower following quality. CIS and Middle East buyers were active, while upcountry buyers provided fair support.
The sales percentage in CTC leaf was only 53 out of the offered quantity of 31,000 kg, with good liquoring brokens steady to dearer. Export demand was subdued, while Kerala and upcountry buyers operated.
