A subdued export demand has hit tea prices in the Coonoor auctions, amid lower arrivals on the trading platform.
Traders said that the quantities offered at the auction were lower due to indifferent climatic conditions in the production centres.
According to Global Tea Auctioneers, the quantity offered in leaf was 17,91,740 kg, with an 80 per cent sale rate, while the figure for dust stood at 5,63,305 kg, with a sales percentage of 61.
In CTC leaf, high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were lower by ₹5-6 and more at times, although some quality lots occasionally sold dearer by ₹2-3.
The better medium sorts were barely steady, occasionally easier by ₹1-2. Medium and plainer bolder leaf and broken grades, which had fair demand, sold barely steady to easier by ₹1-2, and more at times.
Some quality lots dearer
The primary whole leaf grades were lower by ₹3-4, though some quality lots occasionally sold dearer by ₹2-3.
The brokens were easier by ₹3-4, with some withdrawals. High-priced teas and better liquoring sorts were also lower by ₹4-5.
Overall, very little demand was seen in the CTC dust sale.
The primary orthodox dust grades had fair demand and sold barely steady to dearer by ₹2-3 and more at times, depending on quality.
The secondary and finer dust grades were easier by ₹2-3, and more at times.
